Partial Hospitalization for Adults

The Adult Partial Hospitalization Program at Miller-Dwan Behavioral Health is an outpatient mental health treatment program for people ages 18 and older. They often need additional help because outpatient therapy has not been successful. They may have had suicidal thoughts, need their medications evaluated or adjusted, or may not have been able to manage their problems effectively for a significant period of time.

A variety of services are provided, appropriate to each individual's needs, including:

  • Psychotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Activity therapy
  • Chemical dependency (alcohol and drug problems) education and support
  • Medication evaluation
  • Assertiveness training
  • Spiritual guidance
  • Patient and family education and support
  • Anxiety and stress management

Discharge planning, including a support group, is an important part of each individual's care.

The program is offered six hours each day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Each patient’s length of stay differs depending upon his or her medical needs. A typical stay is two to three weeks. After intensive treatment, a support group is offered to maintain progress and address ongoing needs.
