Initial Assessments

The Behavioral Health Referral Center can direct you to mental health services available from SMDC Medical Center or in the community. The center's hours of service are 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. Assistance with referrals is available at the inpatient behavioral health unit outside of those times. We also offer a 24-hour crisis phone line at (218) 723-0099 or (888) 826-0099.

The Referral Center is staffed by experienced professionals who can work with people of all ages. We can provide:

• Referral for mental health and chemical dependency issues
• New patient referrals to hospital services
• Help connecting patients and families with the right mental health and chemical dependency programs and care
• Consultation for people concerned about a family member or friend
• Consultation with other health-care professionals
• Information about community resources

Appointments are not required, but clients are encouraged to call before coming to the Referral Center on the Fourth Floor of SMDC Medical Center's Miller-Dwan Building at 502 E. Second St. in Duluth.
