Pediatric Surgery

When your child needs surgery, you want not only an expert surgical team but also a caring one. At SMDC Medical Center, we understand and offer special services to our youngest patients.

Our special waiting room has toys, books and activities for children. Our nurses are experienced in caring for children and understand how to best relate to different developmental stages. We also offer Child Life Specialists to help you and your child through the experience.

With a touch on button that “magically” opens doors, a child enters a nearby pre-op room that’s away from the noise, smells and sights of the operating rooms. A parent or guardian can accompany the child into the pre-op room and, in most cases, stay with the child until anesthesia begins.

When your child wakes up, a recovery nurse will be holding him or her while sitting in a rocking chair. And we’ll return your child to your arms as soon as possible because we know there’s no substitute for the comfort of a parent.
