Miller-Dwan Rehabilitation Center

Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitaion

Miller-Dwan Rehabilitation Center has provided comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation since 1971, making us the most experienced program in the Northland.

Our medical rehabilitation program is designed to help people with functional limitations learn new skills and adapt old ones so they can live as independently as possible and return to their communities. Each patient’s care and treatment plan is based on his or her unique needs.

Both our adult and pediatric programs have been accredited by the highly respected Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) since 1983.

Our comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program at SMDC Medical Center offers:
  • Largest program north of the Twin Cities
  • Highly qualified team of professionals with extensive experience
  • At least three hours of daily therapy on Monday through Saturday; Sunday sessions are also available as part of an individual’s treatment plan. We also schedule additional time in recreational therapy and psychological counseling, important services not offered by all rehab programs.
  • Regular care planning conferences for patients and their families with the treatment team
  • Independent living apartments where patients practice everyday activities and families/caregivers can be trained in a supportive environment
  • Computer room open 24 hours a day for therapy and personal use. E-mail and Internet access helps patients, families and friends to stay in touch. We’ll also help you set up a Web site on Caring Bridge to help keep family and friends updated on your patient’s progress.
  • Community outings in our own bus that provide patients an opportunity to practice social and practical skills while shopping, watching a movie or going fishing.
  • Specially equipped room to comfortably accommodate people of size.
  • Access to advanced therapeutic and assistive technology, including a computer-assisted system that allows people to control their environment -- turn on the lights, adjust the TV’s volume or answer the phone -- with a head movement or voice command.
  • Health Portfolio, which compiles health information into a notebook designed to help a patient and caregivers manage ongoing health-care needs and resources in their community
