| At SMDC Medical Center, we offer the largest and most comprehensive rehabilitation program north of the Twin Cities. We’ve offered rehabilitation services since 1971. Nine of our programs, including comprehensive medical rehabilitation, have earned accreditation by the highly respected Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). |

Miller-Dwan Rehabilitation Center |
We have the Northland’s only CARF-accredited programs in:
- Brain Injury, both inpatient and outpatient, for adults, adolescents and children
- Spinal Cord System of Care for adults, adolescents and children
- Pediatric Family-Centered Care (Inpatient)
- Stroke Specialty Program
We treat people with disabilities resulting from stroke, spinal cord injury, head injury, multiple sclerosis, orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions as well as other complex medical conditions.
Our philosophy is to provide an environment that promotes maximum levels of independence
as well as optimal psychological, social and personal adjustments for people with
activity limitations as well as their families and care partners.
What sets us apart is our experienced staff, cutting-edge technologies and an emphasis
on active participation. Therapy sessions are scheduled at least three hours daily
from Monday through Saturday; Sunday sessions are available as part of an individual’s
treatment plan. We also schedule additional time in recreational therapy and psychological
counseling, important services not offered by all rehab programs.
Patients and families are involved in all aspects of rehabilitation, from making
decisions to monitoring progress. We schedule day sessions that allow families to
participate in rehabilitation activities, review progress and learn more.
